Mission: The
Lexicon of
Online and
Distance Education will provide
online practitioners, researchers, and
implementers with a compendium of thousands of terms, vocabulary words,
concepts, citations, entries, and bibliographic references pertaining
to
distance learning and the technologies that support this teaching and
learning
strategy in K-12, higher education, proprietary education, and
corporate
training.
Coverage: The
Lexicon
will make for an advanced contribution to the integration of ICT for
effective
distance education. A hard-bound, desktop copy resource focusing
specifically
on distance education would make an indispensable apparatus for
researchers and
practitioners and provide the missing link in an educator’s library of
reference tools.
With its focus
on all levels of education (i.e., K-12, higher education, proprietary
education, and corporate training), the Lexicon is
aligned with
comprehensive coverage of the discipline of distance education.
The book will
offer a comprehensive index of distance learning terms.
The book will
offer drawings, charts, and photographs of the concepts discussed.
The book will
include cross-references to synonyms and, when appropriate, to online
web links
to encourage further exploration.
Submissions: Individuals
interested in submitting one or more citations should
review the List of Topics/ Topic Assigned.
Other related topics in their area of interest may be proposed and
should be
accompanied with a brief explanation of its appropriateness to the
mission of the Lexicon. As you consider whether to participate as one
of our authors,
here are
some important dates to keep in mind: <>
1. We
are requesting an Intent to Submit; a short reply via
email with topic(s) of interest immediately, but no later than Jan 31,
2008. You will be notified
within 1-2
days to commence work on the manuscript so that you have as much
development
time as possible.
2. Authors
of accepted topics must
agree to complete their citations and submit them for review within the
March 1st - May 31st deadline. Extensions will be hard to secure as our
milestone to the publisher is fairly rigid.
3. Citations must be at least 100 but not more than 500 words in length.
4. Citations will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and
will be tracked online at: List of Terms / Concepts Assigned. Please
review this List of Topics before
submitting your intent to ensure the topic has not been assigned to
another
author.
5. To be recognized in the Lexicon as a Distinguished
Contributing Author,
you must provide at least 10 citations for the book. Five (5) of the
citations must come from the List of Terms/ Concepts Assigned; the
other five (5) must address topics NOT on the List -- new topics that
you feel should be included in a Lexicon for Online and Distance
Education. Distinguished Contributing Authors will be
recognized by name, affiliation, and position.
6. Please forward your Intent to
Submit, including your name
and affiliation, to Lawrence A. Tomei, editor at tomei@rmu.edu
as soon as possible.
7. Guidelines for preparing your citations, including sample citations,
may be found on the Main Menu of this project
and should be closely followed to ensure acceptance of your submissions.
This
book is tentatively scheduled for publishing by Rowman and Littlefield
Education in 2009.
